Design Tip: Countertops
When designing an island for your kitchen, remember the size limitations of the materials you are choosing. Laminates come in 4' x 12' sheets so a large island can be seamless. Granite and engineered stone slabs are generally 9'-10' long and 4'-5' wide. An island larger than that may require seams. One way to avoid them is to change heights on the island so that you can specify a smaller piece of stone for each section. Corian or Solid Surface can be installed without visible seams.
